Funeral services for Irene H. Elder, 91, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30PM. Mrs. Elder died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, IL, with her 2 "in town" daughters by her side. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church or Alleman High School. Irene VanPuyvelde was born October 26, 1916 in East Moline, the daughter of Rene and Mary (DeDoncker) VanPuyvelde. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School and High School, East Moline. She married William "Morry" Elder June 25, 1940 in East Moline. He died June 10, 2000. Irene and Morry had both been excellent dancers. Dancing had been a wonderful part of their life together. Irene had been a great baker, raisin bread and rolls were two of her best. She enjoyed playing cards and was especially good at playing Bridge. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Jack Sadler, Rio Verde, AZ, Irene and Dick Farrell, Moline, IL, Mary Jane and Colin Letendre, Rock Island, son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sheri Elder, Lenoir, NC; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Joe VanPuyvelde, East Moline.
