Obituary

James "Jim" F. Bergan, 79, of Silvis, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Park Vista, East Moline.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with recitation of the rosary at 3:00 pm.  Inurnment will be at 9:00 am on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at National Cemetery, Rock Island, those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Van Hoe Funeral Home by 8:30 am, with military honors.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Jim was born on July 18, 1945, in Fairbury, IL, the son of Donald and Rose "Kathleen" (Healy) Bergan.  Jim was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.  He was married to Laurie Zagert, and they later separated.  He worked for John Deere Inc as a computer system programmer.  Jim was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and would always be found at the daily masses.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was an avid Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and New York Yankee fan.  Jim had a fun sarcastic wit to him, and was always smiling and known as "Gentleman Jim."

Jim is survived by his daughter, Erin Bergan; granddaughter, Katherine Kavanaugh; siblings, Donalda Anne (the late Joe) Versluis, Mary (Jack) Ohtani, Tom (Teresa) Bergan; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Angela Schlueter.
