Graveside services for James "Jim" Gomez, 81, of Hampton, IL, will be 12:30 PM Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 9AM until noon Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Mr. Gomez passed away Wednesday October 15, at his home.
Born July 12, 1944 in Moline, to Paul and Ruby Castro Gomez. Jim married his high school sweetheart Colleen Martin April 1964 at St. Annes Catholic Church East Moline.
Jim spent his childhood in a diverse ethic neighborhood with friends, ie playing on railroad tracks and in the boxcars, staying out till street lights came on. He started his first job Churuvia's Flower shop next door.
Jim worked 40 years for John Deere retiring as a welder in 2004.
Jim and Colleen have three children: Phil {deceased} Julie, and Joseph. Each one coached by their Dad at one time or another in Little League, Roosevelt Dads Club baseball, Biddy Basketball, and softball.
Jim also enjoyed watching grandkids playing all sports.
Jim and Colleen were snowbirds for 16 years in Naples Florida and enjoyed many new people and coast to coast travel adventures. When his health didn't allow traveling anymore he enjoyed taking care of his yard and building stuff in garage, and little bit of golf, mostly watching on TV.
Jim was predeceased by his beloved son, Philip James; his parents, Paul and Ruby Gomez, Jim was the youngest of seven children. He was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Raymond, Suzy Ortiz; brother, Joe Gomez; brothers in law, Frank Segura, Ron Raymond, Pete Ortiz; and sister in law Mary Gomez; nieces, Patty Ramirez and Nancy Ortiz
Those left to honor his memory are his wife Colleen; daughter, Julie Webster; son, Joseph (Heather) Gomez; grandchildren, Rachel Gomez, Quentin Gomez, James J Gomez, Sam Gomez, and Mallory Gomez; sisters, Mercedes Segura, Silvis, Rose Baeza, Sterling, and brother, Paul Gomez (Linda), East Moline.
JIM WILL BE DEARLY MISSED BY FRIENDS AND NEICES AND NEPHEWS. Peace out!
