Funeral services for James F. Karben, 74, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Karben died Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Unity Point, Rock Island, IL. Jim was born October 18, 1940, in East Moline, IL, the son of Sam and Esther Sansale Karben. He graduated from Illinois School for the Deaf, Jacksonville, IL. He married Cheryl Neff January 18, 1964, in East Moline. He retired from United Township High School in 1996, after 37 years of service. He had been a member of Calvary Church of the Quad Cities, Moline. He had been a huge supporter of UTHS sports. He was a Green Bay Packers, L.A. Dodgers, and L.A. Lakers fan. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who cherished his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Karben, East Moline; sons, William "Bill" Karben, Moline, John (Sondra) Karben, East Moline; grandchildren, Abbey, Taylor, Jordan, and Adam Karben; sister, Barb (Tim) Carr, Port Byron, IL; brother, Frank (Carolyn) Karben, Ridgefield, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Calvary of the Quad Cities for the benefit of the Deaf Ministry.
