Obituary

James R. Kerner, 80, Port Byron, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at NHC Health Care, West Plaines, MO. Funeral services are 10:30AM Monday At Hope Church, 1811 18th Street, Bettendorf. Visitation is from 9AM until service time. Burial is in Pleasant Point Cemetery, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the family.

James was born November 5th, 1938 in , Burke, South Dakota, son of William Oscar Kerner and Olena Klundt Kerner. He retired from John Deere Plow Planter Works in September of 1994 after 30 years of service as a Production Blacksmith. Prior he served in the United States Army from September 1962 to September of 1964 with an addition of 4 years of service in the National Guard.

He was known as "Cowboy" because he wore cowboy hats, shirts and boots every day. He was very helpful to his fellow workers and always ready for a joke. James was happiest left to his own devices "anything outdoors" - whether it was building a shed, tending to the garden, training a horse, and/or fixing a vehicle. He was always quick to help, assist, and lend a hand whenever possible.

James will be missed and is survived by his wife Wanda of 54 years; four children Nick (Renee) Kerner, Baldwin, Iowa, Greg (Monthira) Kerner, Port Byron, Illinois, Tammy (Scott) Lockaby, Port Byron Illinois, and Tracy (Brooks) Thomas, Mountain Grove, MO;grandchildren, Samantha, Cody, Cole, Jackie, Maddie, Town, Chase, Tyler and Malachi, 6 brothers and sisters, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and good friends he loved.
