Obituary

Funeral services for James L. Lukins, 78, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 9:30-11AM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Lukins passed away Wednesday, October 07, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Jim was born September 8, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of James and Letha (Lewis) Lukins. He married Shirley (Walker) Johnson, July 3, 1961 in St. Joseph, MI. Jim owned a restaurant in Kalamazoo before moving to the Quad Cities. He was a partner in Reliance Improvement Co, Moline, Lakeviw Estates Mobile Home Park, Milan, and the Milan Lanes Bowling Alley. He was President of Imperial Company Inc, Moline, and Executive Vice President of Le Fran Corp, Moline. In 1993 he sold Windows Only, Moline, and retired. He had been a member of the Moline Breakfast Optimists Club for 35 years, a life member of the Moline Elks, and a member of the QCRPA. He loved to golf and in his younger years he enjoyed playing tennis. He belonged to the Geneseo Country Club and the Olde Hickory Golf and Country Club, Ft. Myers, FL, where he and his wife spent their winters. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Lukins of East Moline; daughter and son-in-law, Schelly and Ken Hickman of IN; grandchildren, Caleb, Brian and Brad Hickman; sister, Joyce Vedmore of Kalamazoo; brother and sister-in-law, Darl and Mary of Ft. Myers, FL; niece, Valorie (Jim) Breen of Cape Coral, FL; nephew, Tracey Lukins of Grand Rapids, MI; "our Special Family", Jim and Denise Howell and their children, Ryan, Mandy, and Kerry, who he loved very much; special friends, Bob and Delores Verbeke, Tom and Brenda Boyd, Annie and Harry Kallabach.
