Obituary

Funeral services for James C. Minas, 92, formerly of East Moline, are 11 AM Thursday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd. East Moline, where a Trisagion service will be held at 6:30PM, and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Jimmy died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Mr. Minas was born August 8, 1916 in East Moline, the son of Charles and Bessie (Pantos) Minas. He graduated from United Township High School Class of 1934. He had worked at John Deere and International Harvester prior to his military service in WWII. He married Angela Kandis on October 16, 1949 in Moline. She died February 24, 1983. He owned and operated the Jolly Tap in East Moline for 20 years. He sold the business in 1970 when he went to work for as the bar manager at the LeClaire Hotel in Moline until his retirement. Jimmy was very active at his church serving in many capacities on the church council including president. He co-chaired the bingo program for many years and held the secret recipe for Jimmy's Ouzo Cake that was sold at the Greek Cultural Festivals. Jimmy loved his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan and enjoyed golfing. Survivors include his children and spouses; Diane and Alex Lamacki of East Moline, Deno and Barb Minas, Coal Valley and Bill and Linda Minas of Colona, grandchildren and spouses; Nick and Jackie Minas of Cary, NC, Ali and Ian Everhard of Akron, OH, Jimmy Lamacki of East Moline , Angela Minas of Colona and Drew Minas of Colona, great grandchildren; Caid Minas, Avin Everhard and Maeli Everhard, and sisters; Sophie Minas of Leesburg, FL and Elani "Helen" Korakakis of Kalamata, Greece. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Angela, his brother George and sister Sue.
