Obituary

Funeral services for James D. "Jim" Mullarkey, 77, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00PM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Mullarkey died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, were he had been a member. Jim was born October 8, 1931 in Titonka, IA, the son of Earl and Edith (Hagen) Mullarkey. He married Joan E. Bloom July 4, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from John Deere Plow Planter, Moline, in 1993 after 29 years of service. Jim had been a "jack of all trades" and was always building and fixing things. He was especially proud of a tractor that he recently restored. He enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Joan Mullarkey of East Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Magi and "Bear" Piazza of Fallbrook, CA, Kathy and Matt Karstens of Moline, Kim and Doug Nimrick of Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Teresa Mullarkey of Port Byron, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Carl Jones of Elgin, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Charlene Mullarkey of WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Zachary Piazza who died in 2007. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
