Memorial services for James M. Smith, 66, East Moline, are 6PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services. A memorial fund has been established. Jim died Friday, July 10, 2009 at his home. He was born July 17, 1942 in Metropolis, IL, the son of Cecil and Opal F. (Irby) Smith. He married Carol Cooper in 1963. She died in 1965. He married Sharon McKay in 1971. Jim worked as a truck driver and later as a handyman. He enjoyed writing children's books and novels. Survivors include his children: Adrian J (Tammy) Smith, East Moline, Misty Dawn Smith, Springdale, Ark., and Jerry Sheehan, grandchildren: Joseph, Simon, Septer, Justin and Shawn, four great grandchildren, brother Richard and sisters Mary, Debbie, Pat and Brenda. In addition to his wife Carol, he is preceded in death by a daughter Tammy Sheehan.
