James "Nick" Nickell, 84, Colona, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Genesis Illini, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. JB was born on November 30, 1927 in Lineville, IA, the son of Bert and Ellen Davis Nickell. He married Anna M Alley on April 2, 1952 in Raton, NM. He was a decorated member of the US Army, receiving 2 bronze stars for combat missions during the Korean Conflict. Nick retired in 1982 as a mechanic from the former International Harvester Works, East Moline after 34 ½ years. After retirement he and his wife worked for the Corp of Engineers in DesMoines, IA for 20 years. The enjoyed wintering in Florida. Nick was a lifetime member of the East Moline American Legion and enjoyed camping, fishing and travel. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Anna, children, Cindy (Chris) Lambach, East Moline, and Ron (Mary) Nickell, Athens, IL, grandchildren, Kayla, Nikole, Rita, Rachael, Emily, Katy, and Molly and a great granddaughter Elizabeth, and brothers Elmer Nickell of Hampton, IL and Raymond Nickell, Davenport. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lannie Jones.
