Jacob "J.C." Kornbrust, 90, East Moline, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A memorial gathering will be held from 2-4PM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Private committal will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Animal Aid Humane Society or to Clarissa Cook Hospice House. J.C. was born March 19, 1922 in Marceline, MO, the son of Jacob K. and Mabel M. (Dunlap) Kornbrust He retired as a printer from the Rock Island Arsenal. J.C.'s Passion was Auctioneering. He was an auctioneer for 53 years and served on the Illinois State Auctioneer's Association as secretary/treasurer from 1967-1976, President in 1977, 3 years on the board of directors and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. J.C. conducted over 5000 auctions in his lifetime. He had trained horses, enjoyed farming and his animals. He was also a licensed realtor. Survivors include his wife Nora, children Judy Kornbrust and Gary Kornbrust, all of East Moline, a granddaughter Alexandria Melton, Moline, a sister Genevieve Sharp and brother, Harold Kornbrust, both of Marceline, MO.
