Obituary

Jeanette M. "Jean" Myers, 84, of Silvis, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus in Davenport, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday, February 19, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis, IL. Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., in East Moline where a rosary will be held prior to the visitation at 1 PM. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Jean was born March 12, 1939, in Black River Falls, WI, the daughter of Irvin and Violette (Mattie) Moan. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Jerome "Jerry" Myers, on October 20, 1956 in Spooner, WI. They had a wonderful marriage for 61 years and were blessed with a large and loving family.

Our loving mother is unequivocally remembered by her striking blue eyes and her remarkable smile. Outside of her presence, she blessed all around her with the attributes of her faith, to include service to others, selflessness, resiliency, empathy, creativity, and a playful and joyful nature.

Jean selflessly served everyone in her life through the care of her family, her vocation as a Physical Therapy Assistant and her faith journey. Jean served all in her community, especially children through her years as a preschool educator, a role model for our communities' youth in the Girl Scouts, and those she served with physical and mental limitations though her vocation and various volunteer efforts.

Jean was a lifelong learner and educator and was extremely creative. She gained many credentials in early childhood education, earned a college degree in her 50's, and attended a Cursillo retreat and other faith studies. She was an accomplished seamstress, leisure sketch artist and painter, built dolls and toys, and created beautiful silk flower arrangements for many weddings and other occasions.

Jean's children and grandchildren remember her playful demeanor and approach to life through focusing on the positive while having fun at the same time. Family gatherings always had an abundance of the best food, activities and games, and let's not forget about the basket of building blocks that were enjoyed by generations of children.

Jean never encountered a life challenge she could not overcome, and she approached then with hope, empathy, and resiliency. All of these blessings and the impact she had on everyone around her were the culmination of her lifelong learning and dedication to her Catholic faith.

Jean's family would like to extend deep gratitude to her care companion, Melissa, and the staff at Bickford Senior Assisted Living of Davenport, for their loving care. We also extend appreciation for the care given by the staff at Genesis East and for the medical providers who cared for her over the years.

Survivors include her children, Margie (Steven) Jost, Silvis, IL, Linda (Dave) Golinghorst, Dixon, IA, Julia (Michael) Hull, Lynn Center, IL, Sue (Bill) Vogel, Urbana, IL, and Tony (Mary) Myers, Murray, NE; 23 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; sister, Becky (Ken) Antonson, Wanda Lake, Beverly Green, Mary Shuga; brother Leslie Gene Moan; sister-in-law Sandy Myers.
