October 5, 1947 – September 10, 2008
Jeff Swanson, 60, of East Moline, IL, died unexpectedly September 10, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline on Sunday, September 14 from 2-6 pm, Rosary at 4:30 pm. His Funeral Mass will be at St. Anne Catholic Church in East Moline, Monday, September 15th at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Parish or to the Mary Johnson Memorial Fund. Jeff was born October 5, 1947 to Kenneth and Virginia (Linnie Lee) Swanson. He married Nancy Dobereiner on August 21, 1970. Jeff graduated from Moline High School and attended Black Hawk College. He worked at Valspar Paints for 6 years before getting a job at John Deere. He first worked at the PDC in Milan, retiring from Harvester Works in East Moline after 30 years of service. Jeff was an active member of St. Anne Parish in East Moline. Jeff enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and began painting landscapes after his retirement. He loved cooking and especially trying to make cinnamon rolls like his Gram's and rye bread like his mom's. He was actively involved behind the scenes in his wife's and daughters' teaching careers by designing sets for plays, chaperoning dances, or making supply runs for a special lesson. The Monday after he retired he began watching his precious granddaughter three times a week. He always said he was as busy in his retirement as he had been when he was working. He was recently inducted into the Knights of Columbus, and had been a member of the East Moline-Silvis Jaycee's, Marriage Encounter, Christian Family Movement, Cursillo, and TEC programs. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Nancy; his daughters Maria (Jason) Black, Julia (Andy) Neece, Anna Swanson; and his one very special granddaughter, Hannah Neece, all of Moline. His parents preceded him in death.
