Jennie Garcia, 91, East Moline, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis, surrounded by her family. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Jennie Sandoval was born on July 12, 1922 in the Silvis Yards, the daughter of Eduvigues and Angelina (Hernandez) Sandoval. She married Charles "Charley" Garcia on October 25, 1941 in Horton, KS. He died October 23, 1998. She had worked as a manager for Adolph's Taco House for over 30 years. She had volunteered at the former East Moline State Hospital and was a founding member of the Bunny Hopper's (a group that visits several area nursing homes). She enjoyed being with her family and especially watching her grand and great grandchildren grow. Jennie had a zest for life and loved to share a story and laugh. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona and attending the Mariachi Conference. Survivors include her daughters, Irene Mawson, Josie (John) Bustos Jr., Tommie Shadden, all of East Moline and Bonnie, Rock Island, sixteen grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sisters Georgia Herrera, East Moline, and Mercy Munoz, East Moline and brothers Tanillo Sandoval, East Moline and Eddy Sandoval, Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Margaret, grandsons Johnny and Wil, her parents, a sister, 4 brothers and sons-in-law Don and Dick.
