Funeral services for Jim L. Carpenter, 66, of Silvis, IL, will be 1:30 PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Carpenter died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Illini Restorative Care Center. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Conservation Club for the Kid's Fishing Derby. Jim was born November 30, 1946 in Moline, IL, the son of Cletus and Helen Grajewski Carpenter. He proudly served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from the former International Harvester East Moline in 2002 after 30 years of service. Jim was an outgoing person. He was a Chicago Bears Fan, a hunter, and an avid fisherman. He enjoyed car racing, especially dirt track stock cars. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include his soul mate and companion of many years, Peggy Werner, East Moline; daughter, Gretchen Carpenter, Moline; mother Helen Carpenter, East Moline; sister, Judy (Donald) Jones, Moline; brother, Steve (Corinne) Carpenter, Carbon Cliff, IL; sister-in-law, Judy Polek, Hampton, IL; Peggy's children, Shelley (Jeff) Ketner, Silvis, Michael (Nikki) Werner, Colona, IL, Matthew (Stephanie) Werner, Colona; 8 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, William Polek.
