Joan Ludin, 81, Colona, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at her home. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Joan Martha DeDoncker was born on February 24, 1933 in Moline, the daughter of Rene and Alice (Jorez) DeDoncker. She married Edward Ludin Jr. on July 21, 1951 in East Moline. He died in 1995. When her children were younger, Joan was a member of the Colona PTA, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was part of the 4-H program. She loved her role as wife and mother, always preparing excellent meals and caring for her family. She was devoted to St. Patrick's Church, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Joan and Ed were also very strong supporters of the Right to Life. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She always enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's extra curricular activities. Joan enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for her family and friends. Once her family was raised, Joan and her husband Ed loved taking weekend get-aways. Survivors include her children, Steven Ludin, Milan, David (Marilyn) Ludin, Port Byron, Jeff (Pamela) Ludin, Colona, Patricia Ludin, Colona and James Ludin (Susan Goodman), Colona, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and her childhood friend Pat Dye. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son John, brother Ernest DeDoncker and sister Rose Uzelac.
