JoAnn Darlene (Nice) Struss, 94, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis, Silvis, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, 17628 Hubbard Road, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, East Moline. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church.
JoAnn was born on March 8, 1932, in rural Taylor Ridge, a daughter of Gus A. and Darlene (Carlson) Nice. She graduated from Sherrard High School. On October 24, 1950, she married Rollin L. Struss in San Rafael, California. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2010.
JoAnn worked at Hignight Florist and was devoted to her role as a homemaker, caring for her family throughout her life. A faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, she was actively involved in the life of the church and valued the friendships and faith community she found there.
JoAnn enjoyed puzzles, games, quilting, and traveling. An accomplished seamstress, she shared her talents through her sewing and quilting projects, many of which became treasured gifts for family and friends. JoAnn was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and remained deeply devoted to her faith and church community.
Those left to cherish JoAnn’s memory include her children and spouses, Thomas and Janet Struss, Gail Struss, and Donna and Lowell Jacobsen; grandchildren and spouses, Katie (Mike) Stuart, David (Nina) Struss, Alyssa Jacobsen, and Kyle (Kenzie) Jacobsen; great-grandchildren, Jordan Stuart, Caden Struss, and Leo Jacobsen; siblings, Ned (Mary Ellen) Nice, Elsie Nice, and Kay Praet; and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Mark Struss; and siblings, Robert Nice, Eugene Nice, and Peggy Neathammer.
