Funeral services for Joanne M. Columbia, 73, of Hampton, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Entombment will be St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 1:00-7:00PM Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Columbia died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne Lesthaeghe was born June 16, 1941, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Frank and Alice Coene Lesthaeghe. She was a graduate of Alleman High School, Class of 1959. She met Anthony(Tony) P. Columbia in 7th grade while they attended St. Mary's Catholic School, East Moline. They where married on September 24, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year. Joanne coached Hampton Youth Baseball for 12 years and 5th & 6th grade girls Hampton Basketball. She worked for UTHS as a bus driver and then as a Student Services Secretary for 23 years, retiring in 2007. She enjoyed her grandkids, playing cards with family, bingo, traveling, NASCAR, and penny slots. Survivors include her husband, of nearly 54 years, Tony Columbia, Hampton; daughters, Cathy (Jeff) Grabau, Port Byron, IL and Cindy (Dave) Ogle, Hampton; sons, Chris (Lisa) Columbia Chicago, IL, and Craig (Regina) Columbia, Morton, IL; grandchildren, Jeffrey Grabau, Bettendorf, IA, Dylan Columbia, Kahoka, MO, Nathan Columbia, Chicago, Tyler Cornett, Hampton, and Katelyn Columbia, Chicago; great granddaughter, Presley Grabau, Bettendorf; sisters, Mary (James) Dowsett, Rapids City, IL, and Paula Bosten, Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Nicholas Dowsett. Memorials may be made to Moline Breakfast Optimist Club Youth Cancer Fund.
