JoAnne was born on June 21, 1929, at home. Her parents Leon and Anna Verhaeghe lived in Silvis and went to her grandmother's home for the birth, just next door.
During her lifetime she lived in every city from Rock Island, Moline, East Moline and finally ended up in Silvis. After graduating from Moline High School in 1947, she was involved in Moline's Centennial where she met Ivan "Bud" Whitmore. She was a Sister of the Swish and he was a Brother of the Brush. They were united in marriage the next year, and from that union one wonderful daughter, Sherri Lee was born.
JoAnne was employed at Homewood Evangelical Free Church for almost 18 years, a job she truly loved. JoAnne, Ivan, and Sherri were charter members of the church. After retirement, she enjoyed reading Christian books to her hearts content and being a dog lover. JoAnne wrote this obituary about a year ago.
JoAnne is survived by her daughter, Sherri Thompson; grandsons, David (Lauri) Thompson and Dan (Robin) Thompson; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Jenna, Alexis, and Zoey; great-great grandchildren, Jaxson, Brantley, and Mia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Roberta Hansen; brother-in-laws, Al Hansen and Roger Failon; and son-in-law, Aten "Tom" Thompson.
