Joel S. Pon, 48, of East Moline, passed away Friday April 20, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity in Rock Island. Memorial services are 10:00AM Wednesday at Faith Evangelical Free Church on Airport Road, Moline. Cremation has been accorded. Joel was born December 7, 1969 in Cambodia, a son of Pon Pon and Chhoy Mov-Pon. After surviving the killings in Cambodia at 7 years old, where he lost 2 of his brothers, he immigrated with his family to the United States in 1985 and became an American citizen. He graduated from United Township High School in 1990, and obtained an Associates Degree, and a Certificate in Computer Repair from Black Hawk College. He also had attended St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He had previously worked at Hon Company in Muscatine, and was an over-the-road trucker. He was proud to have traveled to 48 states and Canada as a trucker. He also had worked for Therapeutic Mid-West for 5 years. Joel enjoyed spending time reading the Bible, helping with rescue missions with various local churches, and being a part of the singles group at Homewood Church in Moline. He loved studying American History and was a regular attendee at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. He is survived by his mother, Chhoy, and a sister, Lisa Pon both of East Moline. Joel was preceded in death by his father, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
