Funeral services for John S. Arvanitis, 80, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Saturday, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Service (Prayer Service) will be held at 7. Mr. Arvanitis died Sunday March 17, 2019, at UnityPoint, Rock Island, IL. John was born May 10, 1938, in Filiatra, Greece, the son of Stathi and Persefoni Arvanitis. He married Nitsa Fotos in 1964 in Filiatra. She died January 20, 1994. John and Nitsa immigrated to the United States with hopes of a better life. He worked as a chef in the Quad City Area. In his later years he dedicated his life to his church and community. Survivors include his sons, Dr. Steve (Aimee) Arvanitis, Rock Island, and George (Mary) Arvanitis, Buffalo, IA; grandchildren, Nicholas, Zoe, John and Nitsa Arvanitis; sister, Georgia Antoniou, Athens, Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother-in-law, Antonio Antoniou. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
