Obituary

John R. "Jack" Bell 89 of East Moline, IL, died November 1, 2018 at New Perspective Senior Living, Silvis, IL A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 10:00 am Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3 pm. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 227. Jack was born September 6, 1929 in West Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Bernard W. and Mary Virous Edmundson Bell. He married Dolores Mae Schatteman September 10, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Jack served three years in the U.S. Navy stationed in the South Pacific including Hawaii, Tokyo, and Shanghai, China. He worked at C.R.I.P. Railroad Co. as a pipe fitter and an automobile mechanic. Later, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, and at Alleman High School. He retired from Regalia Manufacturing Company in 1992. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, friends, and his grandchildren. His hobbies included amateur radio, computers, and model railroads. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, story telling, and hardy laugh. Survivors include his wife of 63 years Dolores; children, Jeanne (Steve) Papageorgiou, South Bend, IN; Carolee (Tim) Ohrberg, South Haven, MS; grandchildren, Trevor Joseph, and Jason Matthew Rodrigues and Faith Adeline Ohrberg, Jake (Heather) Papageorgiou and Barbara (Dan) Papageorgiou-Lewis; great grandchildren, Megan and Jake Jr. Papageorgiou, Verona Blair and Daniel Vaughn Lewis; brother, James (Marylee) Bell Navarre, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or Alleman High School. The family wishes to thank everyone at Hospice Compassus, New Perspective Senior Living, and Dr. Okba and his staff for all their care and compassion.
