He endured the strike from November 1st 1979 to April 20th 1980 working with his wife at Franks Pizza in Silvis to provide for his family! He took his family on yearly vacations as he loved spending time with his family! Two of his favorite places where the U.P. of Michigan and Devil's Lake State Park Wisconsin as he loved nature and the outdoors. He also had a great passion for firearm competition. He shot at Camp Perry in Ohio at the National high power rifle championships for many many years, winning several medals. He was a long-standing member of the Milan Rifle Club since about 1960 and was highly regarded for his firearm knowledge. He always took the time to instruct and help people learn that knowledge! John was the epitome of humbleness! He always had a beautiful smile on his face and in his heart! We are so thankful in his later years that he trusted in Jesus as his savior. And that brought him so much peace! He was very committed to reading his two Jesus calling Devotional books every morning and evening. He loved animals and donated to many animal beneficiary groups and organizations. The family would be remiss if we did not include a heartfelt thank you to all of the Medical Care staff at the University of Iowa that gave another year and a half full of memories with dad. We encountered the most amazing people at the University of Iowa medical complex. His surgeon, Dr Pat McGonagil, is not only amazing surgeon, but an amazing human being! We'd also like to thank all of the medical staff along the way on his journey home. And finally but not lastly all of the amazing home health care workers that took care of our dad in such an amazing way in his home! We are so indebted to all of these amazing healthcare workers my dad encountered on his journey!
