Obituary

Funeral services for John J. "Jack" Cosgrave, 78, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-7:00PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 1:00PM. Mr. Cosgrave died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or the Silvis Optimist Club. Jack was born March 7, 1929 in Moline, IL, the son of John and Irene (O'Brien) Cosgrave. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Madeline M. Zahner October 6, 1956 in Silver Lake, MO. She died June 24, 2004. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose Academy and St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He owned and operated Cosgrave Pharmacy, Silvis, since 1957. Jack had been very active in the community, where he served on many boards and committees. He had been a charter member of the Silvis Optimist Club and a member of many other organizations. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, making many trips to "the farm" in Missouri, he also enjoyed their trips to Hawaii. He had been an avid walker participating in 5K Walks, where he had won many ribbons and trophies. The most important part of his life was his family. He had been a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Karen "Kae" and Paul Garner of East Moline, IL, Sharon "Shari" and Danny Barnes of East Moline, IL, Mary Kolleen and Jeff Sloan of Pittsboro, IN, Joan and Dave McDermott of Moline, IL, Ann and Loren Lembke of Geneseo, IL, Liz and Alex McGehee of Silvis, IL; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Sally Cosgrave of Colona, IL, Tom and Suzanne Cosgrave of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren; Emily, Audrey, Ben, and Billy Cosgrave, Andy, Katie, Matt, Stephanie, and Lindsey Garner, Jake, Ashley, and Cody Barnes, Kyle, Kassie, Nathan, and Bridget Sloan, Julie, Peter, Elizabeth McDermott, Sharon, Josephine, Allison, Lindsay, and Amy Rubio, Luke, Kylie, and Molly Lembke, Courtney, Sam, and Thomas McGehee; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Homer Greening of Jackson, MO, Jim and Joan Cosgrave of Mesa, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
