Funeral services for John Dokas, 91, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Dokas died Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Lighthouse Point, Silvis, IL. John was born June 30, 1924, in East Moline, IL, the son of James P. and Lola White. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Dorothy Summitt May 22, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, in 1984, after 25 years of service. He enjoyed playing racquetball, which he played well into his mid 80's. He was a Bible teacher. He was a devoted husband and father. Survivors include his daughter, Marsha (Charles) Durden, Marietta, GA; son, James (LuAnn) Dokas Silvis; grandchildren, Clara Lynn (Tim) Hemphill, Rebecca (Jeremy) Barr, Christa Dokas, and Elizabeth (Jesse) Cochrane; great grandchildren, Jordan Peters, Carly Barr, Addison Hemphill, and another great grandson due in March. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Pete Dokas. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
