Funeral services for John W. Hemphill, 92, formerly of East Moline, IL, will be 10AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Hemphill died Monday, September 20, 2010 at Parkland Hospital, Farmington, MO. Memorials may be made to the family. John was born February 9, 1918 in Meadville, MO, the son of John L. and Nellie Mae Horton Hemphill. He married Zelma Rocco on July 5, 1941 in Aledo, IL. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and neighbor. He was a United States Army veteran and retired as an engineer from J.I. Case. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John and Joyce Hemphill of Farmington, MO; grandchildren (spouse), Angela (Brett) Farley of Farmington, Scott Hemphill of St. Louis, MO; great grandchildren, Tori and Bennett Farley; sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Bob Vance of Aledo; brother Ray Hemphill of Aledo. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, his parents and two brothers, Jim and Fred Hemphill.
