Funeral services for John L. Hubbs Jr., 81, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30PM. Mr. Hubbs died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church for the Stained Glass Window Restoration or to Alleman High School. John was born July 10, 1930 in Moline, IL, the son of John L. and Georgina Bonte Hubbs Sr. He attended St. Joseph School, Rock Island and graduated from St. Ambrose Academy. He then attended St. Ambrose College. He married June Schultz January 13, 1951 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He entered the service thru Fort Carson, El Paso County, Colorado and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Ford Motor Company, where he had worked for over 20 years. John had been an active member of his community. He had been the Commissioner/Chairman of the City of East Moline Housing Authority, South Moline Township Assessor, Rock Island County Board of Review Member/Chairman, and City of East Moline Alderman. The Hubbs' family belonged to St. Anne Catholic Church and all their children attended the school. He had been an active member of the church, where among many positions held, he was the first president of the Parent Teacher Organization. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, June Hubbs, East Moline; daughters, Denise Hubbs, East Moline, Debbie and Steve Kautz, East Moline, Deanna Hubbs, East Moline; sons, David (Janis) Hubbs, Milan, IL, and Daniel Hubbs, Golden, CO; son-in-law, Rob Brundies, East Moline; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 1 brother; sister-in-law, Dorothy Light, East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Diane Brundies. The family would like to thank Dr. Brahma Konda & Staff and Dr. Raymond Hohl & Staff at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
