Funeral services for John De La Cruz, 81, of Moline, IL, will be 10 am Monday at St Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 2-5 pm Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1pm. Mr. De La Cruz passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at his home.
John was born June 24, 1941, in Barstow, IL, the son of Carlos and Irene (Solis) De La Cruz. He married Mary Lou Cervantez April 27, 1963, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Galesburg, IL. She passed away August 13, 2021. John worked as a welder for the former Rock Island Lines Silvis and then for John Deere Harvester, East Moline, retiring after 36 years of service. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, woodworking and working on old cars. He had a passion for coaching, especially girls softball. In 1978 he brought ASA Girls Fast Pitch Softball to the Quad Cities, where he started and coached the Moline Angels and the Moline Saints.
He was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda De La Cruz (Jim DeVries), Carbon Cliff, IL, and Sally (James) Mack, East Moline; grandchildren, Taylor and Blake Mack; brothers, Jesse Cruz, East Moline, and Charlie (Romona) Cruz, Silvis, IL; and sister-in-law, BeBe De La Cruz, Davenport, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Maria (Reyes) Lara, Lupe (Beatrice) Cruz and Manuel De La Cruz.
