Funeral services for John R. Lester, 81, of Milan, IL, formerly of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery, Erie, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Lester died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at his home. Memorials may be made to the family. John was born May 29, 1928 in Wellman, IA, the son of Edward and Hulda (Nelson) Lester. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Dorothy Roeder May 21, 1960 in Morrison, IL. He retired from McLaughlin Body Co., Moline, IL, in 1988 after 28 years of service. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing his guitar. John was a member of the Moline VFW Post 2153. Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Lester of Milan; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Christopher Lessard of Alpha, IL; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill Lester of Milan, Ed and Pam Lester of Noblesville, IN; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
