Obituary

Visitation for John C. Leyendecker, 62, of Carbon Cliff, IL, will be Saturday, January 4, 2024 at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL from noon-4pm with services to follow.

John left us without warning on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

John was born July 10, 1962, in San Antonio, TX, the son of Stanley and Joann. He spent his school years in Sherrard, IL. He later married Tori Sandoval who gave him two daughters, Nicole and Catherine. John was a wonderful father and an avid camper. He would record every birthday and event for his girls, drive them to the golf range in his "Le Car", and spend quality time at the campground to fish and visit with Grandma Jo and Papa Warren.

He traded in his New Balance "dad" shoes for biker boots and cut-off shirts when he met the love of his life Merry McHie. They blended their families in those boots on September 3, 2011, in Savannah, IL.

John had worked as a truck driver for more than 15 years and he took great pride in his safety rating. Whether navigating highways on 18 wheels or winding mountain trails on 2, he was always in search of adventure. No matter the ride, it was the company of friends and family that truly made the journey worthwhile.

John saw no strangers, only friends he had yet to meet. His company was always filled with laughter. To his seven grandchildren, he was the fun and devoted Papa; to his family, a father like no other; and to his friends, a brother in every way that mattered. Though you left too soon, we know this isn't goodbye. We'll join you on the other side. Until we ride again.

Survivors include his wife, Merry Leyendecker, Carbon Cliff; children, Nicole Leyendecker (Josh Watson), Moline, IL, and Catherine Leyendecker (Tanner Pfister), Silvis, IL; stepchildren, Sarah (Gene) Anderson III, Moline, Alex Ricke, Moline, and Samantha (Caleb) Webster, Davenport; grandchildren, Aviana, Mia Rose, Jorden, Mylee, Alexander, Sawyer, and Winona; siblings, Barbara Barbour and Doug Leyendecker, Taylor Ridge, IL.

He was preceded by his parents; stepfather, Warren Humphrey; brothers, Stanley Leyendecker, Jr., and Clifford Leyendecker; and sister-in-law, Cindy Leyendecker. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family. We also invite guests to bring their favorite photo of John to share in a guestbook, as we create a keepsake to treasure for years to come.
