Obituary

John G. Mullen, 75 of Davenport, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, peacefully at home.

John Grant Mullen was born October 17, 1949, in Tucson, Arizona, the first son to Alfred "Jack" and Joan Manley Mullen. He attended United Township High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1971. He married Linda S. McMullen on June 12, 1971, who preceded him in death in 2024. He attended Drake University and received his master's degree in law in 1973 and passed the State of Iowa Bar examination. He practiced law in Davenport and was appointed the Juvenile Court Judge for Scott County in 1985. In 2014, he retired after 29 years of public service.

John was an avid reader of all genres and sported many stylish ties during his career. He was a collector of beer signs and steins, southwest decor and enjoyed Irish whiskey and anything Irish due to his ancestry. He enjoyed traveling with Linda and friends to Mexico, Ireland, Scotland and around the United States looking for treasures to add to their collections. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, St. Patrick Society and was the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day parade in 2012. He served on several boards of directors to promote the welfare of children and youth. John and Linda fostered many dogs and were advocates for abused animals.

Surviving John are his sister, Colleen Jordan of East Moline and her children, Danele Jordan and Benjamin (Emma) Jordan and their children, brother Charles "Chuck" (Janelle) Mullen of Moline, brother-in-law, Larry McMullen (Moline),  nieces and nephews, Nancy (Mark) Timm, Diana Correll, John (Cris) McMullen, Allen (Diane) McMullen and Lou Ann (Aziz) Talbi and seven great nieces and nephews and their families.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his parents, Alfred "Jack" and Joan Manley Mullen, his brother-in-law, Paul McMullen and sisters-in-law, Ann McMullen and Sally McMullen and great nephew, Tyler Correll.

He will be laid to rest in Greenview Memorial Gardens in a private graveside service. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday,  August 9th at the Riverfront Grille, 4619 34th Street, Rock Island, IL 61021 at 11:00 am.  Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In memorial and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grants and Aid Fund, University of Illinois Athletic Department, Drake University Law School Foundation, or the Scott County Humane Society.
