Funeral services for John "Allen" Reamy, 71, of Hampton, IL, will be 10 AM Monday, January 20. 2025, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, IL. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the funeral home. Allen passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his home, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Allen was born February 28, 1953, in Moline, IL, the son of John B. and Sue Wood Reamy. He was a graduate of UTHS Class of 1971. He was married for 51 years to his high school sweetheart, Melinda Newkirk. They were married January 19, 1974, at Silvis United Methodist Church, Silvis, IL.
He worked at John Deere Harvester starting on the assembly line with his dad in 1973. He eventually landed in the product development area where he was able to travel to Brazil twice to help with the implementation of new products. He received the John Deere Presidents' Award of Excellence in 2013 for his product development. He also received the John Deere Individual Recognition Award for his volunteer work. He retired in May of 2015 after 42 years of service. In retirement, he wanted to travel the country, enjoy the grandkids, lose some golf balls and continue coaching at Hampton Elementary school.
He dedicated a life of service to the community. He coached the church softball team for many years. He was an active member of the Hampton Youth Committee since the early 90s where he coached HYC softball and was a board member. At Hampton Elementary, he volunteer coached for 34 years. He started the cross country team as well as coached track and basketball. To honor his volunteerism with Hampton sports, the Hawk award was renamed the "Al Reamy Award." He also volunteered at the Royal Ball for Autism, Crop for a Cure and the Silvis Food Pantry.
He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Silvis Campus.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda Reamy, Hampton; daughters, Lisa (Paul) Mattison, Port Byron, IL, and Michelle (Nathan) Williams, Moline; grandchildren, Evelyn and Gabriel Mattison, and London and Ronin Williams; his mother, Sue Reamy, East Moline; siblings, Ken (Terri) Reamy, FL, and Linda Simoneau (Mike Wohlers), NE. He was loved many cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thank you to niece Sarah (Ben) Stockwell for all of their love and support.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Reamy.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Silvis Food Pantry, Hampton Youth Committee, or Hampton Booster Club.
