Funeral services for John Ronald Smith, 65, Rock Island, are 11 AM Thursday at Bettendorf Christian Church, 3487 Towne Pointe Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial is in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. John passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Trinity Regional Health Systems, Rock Island. A memorial fund has been established. John was born May 16, 1945 in Muscatine, IA, the son of John and Alene (De Lap) Smith. He had worked at the former Eagle Food for 27 years, retiring in 2002 as a Key Carrier. He married Jean A. Taylor on February 9, 2002 in Rock Island. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Jean Taylor-Smith, Rock Island, daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Michael Tyler, Bettendorf, grandchildren; Blake, Jaden, and Brooklyn, and a brother Donald Smith of Shannon, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother DeWayne and a sister Janice.
