?Funeral services for John L. Russell, 90, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Mr. Russell died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. John was born March 3, 1920, the son of Jim and Alma Russell. He married Katherine (Bruyntjens) Briggs March 16, 1977 in Las Vegas, NV. He had served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. While serving as a Radio Operator on a B24, the crew was forced to bail out of their airplane over the Alps, where he was captured as a POW. He had worked for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1978 after 37 years of service. He loved watching NASCAR and traveling with his wife. Survivors include his wife Katherine Russell of Moline; children, Judy, Charlene, Janice, Mike, Nancy, John, Kelly, Jay, Jim, and Gary; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
