Memorial graveside services for John E. Thornborough, 88, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:30 pm Thursday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Thornborough died Monday, October 3, 2016, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. John was born October 11, 1927 in Birmingham, England, the son of Ernest R. and Eileen M. Ferns Thornborough. He served in the British Navy as a signalman, during WWII. He married Kathleen D. Constable September 9, 1950, in Warwickshire, England. He was the Director of Policy Services at Bituminous Insurance Co, Rock Island, IL, retiring in 1992 after 38 years of service. John was a dedicated family man. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and bowling. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Kathleen Thornborough, East Moline; children, Teresa (Richard) Willey, Wesley, IA, Wendy (Les) Browne, Scottsdale, AZ, and Kevin (Katie) Thornborough, East Moline; grandchildren, Eric Farnham, Brenda (Nate) Atkins, Audrey Farnham, Matt (Deidra) Farnham, Meghan Quinn, Kolton Thornborough, and Kyler Thornborough; great grandchildren, Ruby, Juneau, Macey, and Quentin. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Port Byron, IL, Stained Glass Fund.
