COVID 19 has claimed the life of Jose Angel Cantu, 77, of East Moline. He passed away on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 at Unity Point Trinity, Rock Island. Private family funeral services will be Tuesday, December 29th, 2020 at 1PM. Services will be live streamed at http://www.facebook.com/vanhoefuneralhome

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Jose was born on October 30th, 1943 in Rancho Elebanito, General Teran, N.L. , Mexico, the son of Roberto and Manuelita (Flores) Cantu. He came to the Quad Cities in 1962 at the age of 17 to live with his older brother, Juvencio Cantu, and his family. On April 8th, 1973 he married Yolanda Montalvo in General Teran, Mexico. He worked at John Deere Foundry and John Deere Harvester Works for 36 years. He was proud of working at John Deere Harvester and being head utility man of line 925, he retired on September 30th, 1998. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico to see his parents, family, and childhood friends; spending time with his grandchildren, and working on his yard, as it was the neighborhood's social center for young and old. He was known as Little Texas to all friends as he made many throughout his lifetime that he enjoyed spending time with, he cherished these friendships and was always the friend they could count on.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Yolanda, children Sandra, Susana, Jose Roberto Cantu, seven grandchildren Mia, Max, Anahi, Ximena, Alessandro, Victoria,Luca, his great granddaughter Luna, and his sister Francisca (Arnulfo) Garcia of Kingsburg, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Juvencio Cantu, Dora Arjona, Guadalupe DeLeon.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to St. Jude's.

José nació el 30 de octubre de 1943 en el Rancho Elebanito en General Terán, Nuevo León, México,   hijo de Roberto y Manuelita (Flores) Cantú.  Llegó a los Quad Cities en 1962 a la edad de 17 años para vivir con su hermano mayor Juvencio Cantú y su familia.  El 8 de abril de 1973 se casó con Yolanda Montalvo en General Terán, México. Él trabajó para John Deere Foundry y John Deere Harvester Works por 36 años.  Él estaba orgulloso de trabajar para John Deere Harvester Works y era el encargado de la  línea 925, se jubiló el 30 de septiembre de 1998.  Él disfrutaba de viajar a México  a ver a sus padres, familia, y amigos de la niñez; pasando el tiempo con sus nietos, y mantener su jardín ya que era el centro social del barrio para los jóvenes y los de su edad. Todos sus amigos lo conocían como Tejas chico ya que hizo muchos amigos durante su tiempo de vida.  A él le encantaba pasar tiempo con sus amigos, apreciaba sus amistades y siempre lo conocieron como el amigo con quien podían contar.

Deja a su esposa de 47 años, Yolanda, a sus hijos Sandra, Susana y José Roberto Cantú, siete nietos Mia, Max, Anahí, Ximena, Alessandro, Victoria,Luca,una bisnieta Luna y su hermana Francisca (Arnulfo) García de Kingsburg, California.

Él fue precedido en muerte por sus padres, hermanos Juvencio Cantú, Dora Arjona y Guadalupe De León.
