Jose Chavez, 88, Silvis, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his home. Private committal was held at Rock Island National Cemetery.

Jose was born September 8, 1930 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Jose and Ester (Avila) Chavez. He married Joanne Kay Ramirez in 2000. She died in 2011. Jose worked in the construction industry. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include a daughter Ester Chavez, step children; Judy (Steve) Dykstra, Steve Ramirez, Jerry (Lisa) Ramirez, and Joan "Micki" Brenan, six grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and siblings; Roberto Chavez, Victora Alaniz, Celia Garcia and Esther Chavez.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers; Manuel, Lupe, Raul and Frank.
