Jose Javier Marquina, 32, of East Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday February 14, 2024 at University of Iowa Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, East Moline. A rosary will be recited 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a visitation following from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Jose was born August 16, 1991 in Silvis, IL, a son of Javier and Anna Oliva Marquina. He graduated from United Township High School, Class of 2009. He married Rocio Galvez Calletano on January 12, 2018 in Mexico.

He was a welder for Dienes-Nitz Solutions, Hillsdale, and a Professional Boxer.

Jose was a talented carpenter and enjoyed custom woodworking. He enjoyed running, gardening, and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rocio, of East Moline; mother, Anna Marquina, Beloit, WI; father and stepmother, Javier and Blanca Marquina, East Moline; brothers, Joshua Marquina, Janesville, WI, and Michael Marquina, Flagstaff, AZ; maternal grandfather, Jose Oliva, East Moline; mother-in-law, Guadalupe Calletano, Mexico; and many aunts, uncles, and other family.

Jose was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Lidia Mendoza de Oliva; and paternal grandparents, Moses Marquina and Teodora Trujillo.
