Joseph Claeys, 94, a resident of the Lighthouse, Silvis, formerly of East Moline, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or to a family charity. Joe was born December 5, 1917 in Collis, MN, the son of Alphonse and Emma (Martens) Claeys. He married Virginia Kinney on June 14, 1941 in DeWitt, IA. She died June 25, 2011. Joe retired in 1979 as a layout inspector from John Deere Foundry. He had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He and his wife loved to travel. They wintered in Texas and took their Air-Stream throughout North America including caravans to Alaska and Mexico. They traveled to Europe and Australia. Joe enjoyed the game of golf, walking, riding his bike and was an avid rolle bolle player. Survivors include his children, Diane (Ed) Gentry, Canberra Australia, and Lynn (Michael) Colgan, East Moline, grandchildren, Kelly (Chris) Hartweg, Chicago, Chad (Jill) Colgan, East Moline, and Sean (Rohini) Gentry, Melbourne, Australia, and great grandchildren, Linda, Ellen, Jack, Connor, Jackson, Max, Rishi, Emma and Kirin. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, sister Margarite Hatfield and a grandson Jason Gentry.
