Joseph DeWaele , 79, of East Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Celebrate of Moline, IL.

In accordance with his wishes, private family services and burial with military honors are being planned at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family.

Joseph was born March 17, 1946, in Muscatine, Iowa, a son of Archiel and Jean (Leiberknecht) DeWaele.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked in Quality Control at Valspar, Moline, for many years.

Joseph was an avid reader and loved books. His interests included Sci-Fi and U.S. and Native American History. In his youth, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America.

Surviving are his brother, Timothy DeWaele, East Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Paul Roberts, Moline; and nieces, Elizabeth Ahee and Abigail Roberts.

Joseph's family wishes to express a special Thank You to the nurses and staff of Celebrate of Moline and Heartland Hospice for their kindness and care.
