Funeral services for Joseph Lazaro Velez, 21, East Moline, are 9 AM Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3 PM. Joseph died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. A memorial fund has been established at Metrobank. Joseph was born July 21, 1984 in Moline, the son of Lazaro and Maria Elena (Soliz) Velez. He graduated from St. Mary's Grade School and attended UTHS. As a young man he served as an altar boy at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. He was currently working at Sivyer Steel as a welder. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and welding. He took great pleasure watching all his nieces and nephews and loved the time he spent with his daughter. Joseph had a great relationship with his aunts and uncles and had a special love for his mother and his sisters. Joseph was a fan of Soccer and loved to play every weekend with his friends. He enjoyed sketching and drawing. Survivors include his daughter Natalia Velez, Rock Island, parents Lazaro Velez of Arlington, TX and Maria Elena Soliz, East Moline, sisters and brothers-in-law Rosa and Jason VanDerLinden, Rock Island, Sara and Daniel Gutierrez, Angelica and Alex Torres and Cristina Diaz, all of East Moline, special friend Arkadia Smith, Rock Island, nieces and nephews Danny Boy, Jason, Matthew, Priscilla, Vanessa, Joshua, Jeremiah and Ramon, grandparents, Rita Soliz, Silvis and Natalia and Abelardo Velez, of Mexico, and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. His grandfather Paul Soliz preceded him in death, in June of 2003, Uncle Tommy Sandoval in November of 2002, and niece Veronica VanDerLinden in June of 1997.
