Obituary

Joshua Lyphout, 39, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of East Moline, IL, passed away on December 2, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born in Rock Island, Illinois, to Jerry and Judy Lyphout on January 12, 1986. He was a proud graduate of United Township High School, Class of 2004. His love of learning and science led him to Augustana College, where he earned his degree in biology in 2008. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Las Vegas to join Teach for America, beginning a career dedicated to education and inspiring young minds. Furthering his education, Josh graduated from UNLV in 2010 with a Masters in Education. He taught high school science at Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy and later junior high science within the Clark County School District, leaving a lasting impact on countless students.

Music was a lifelong passion. He spent much of his youth singing and traveling with the Moline Boys Choir. Josh played the French horn throughout high school and college, marching proudly with the United Township High School marching band. His talents extended to the stage, where he participated in musicals during his high school years, sharing his creativity and joy with the community.

His legacy lives on in the students he taught, the music he shared, and the friendships he cherished.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Judy Lyphout, East Moline, IL; sisters, Katie Lyphout, East Moline, IL and Kari (Nathan) Miller, Eldridge, IA; Nephews, Kayden, Hudson, and Camden Miller; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elsie and Jordan Lyphout, Louis and Anna Marie Otte, and an honorary grandfather, Reverend Karl Holtkamp; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 1:00-5:00 pm, at the Outing Club, Davenport, IA. Everyone is welcome to attend.
