Funeral Services for Joshua "Josey" David Nelson, 37, of Orion, IL, will be held 10AM Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Joshua died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 on Bainbridge Island, WA, after a brief illness. Josh was born June 14, 1970 in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of John Nelson and Kathleen Kelly. He was a Gulf War veteran serving two tours of duty as a Ranger in the US Army. After attending Illinois State University he pursued a career in restaurant management. He married Cassandra Delatorre January 30, 2004. Josey had a passion for reading and gourmet cooking. His inviting personality touched many lives and he will long be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his warm smile by those who loved him. Those left to honor his memory include: his sons, Jordyn M. Martin and Jacob D. Nelson; fiancée, Stephanie (Fillman) Curtis of Orion; parents, Kathleen (Brake) Kelly of Moline, Il, and John Nelson of Springfield, Il; brother, Justin Nelson of Moline, Il. An infant son, John Patrick Nelson, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers and gifts, a memorial fund has been established for his sons' college education.
