Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. The Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Joyce was born to Lloyd and Marie Sjoquist Lawson on October 8, 1942 at her parents home in Moline. She graduated in 1960 from Moline High School and married Dale R. Armstrong at Calvary Lutheran Church on January 7, 1972. They spent 48 ½ wonderful years together before Dale became ill with Parkinson's Disease and Dementia. Joyce continued to be a devoted caregiver to Dale before he passed away on May 20, 2020. She was a Cancer survivor who believes it was God's will for her to survive so that she could take care of her husband in his later years.
Joyce worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1960 – 1971 and spent several years at Schwenker & Mougin Shoes in Moline. Joyce and Dale
enjoyed many trips together, including traveling to the Hawaiian Islands, Jamaica, Mexico (Cancun & Riviera Maya), and the Dominican Republic. They also enjoyed several Caribbean cruises and visited 45 States and Canada. One highlight during their travels was going through the Panama Canal. Other great memories include several trips to visit family in Minnesota.
Joyce loved rainbows, lighthouses, and working jigsaw or crossword puzzles. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was ecstatic to see them win the World Series. Additionally, she was proud of her extensive Precious Moments collection. She also enjoyed sitting by the ocean where she could watch and listen to the relaxing sound of waves hitting the shore. She was in awe driving towards the mountains and admiring them from a distance, as well as up close. Her best memories include the time she spent with her family and being able to watch several grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She adored every one of them and attended hundreds of their sporting events, dance recitals, competitions, and graduations. She was their biggest fan and always the first one to arrive, often saving seats for the rest of us. The pride she had in her family was only matched by her love for them.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Elizabeth "Lisa" Armstrong-Blair (Phil Banaszek), Silvis
and Darrin (Karena) Armstrong, Silvis; stepson, Brian (Karen) Armstrong, Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Brittani Underwood, Austin (Kelsey) Blair, Blake Armstrong, Gabriel Armstrong, Daniel Armstrong, Deanna (Jason) Dodge; great grandchildren, Brynley, Ryder, Kennedy, Liliana, Lucas, Malaya, Landyn, and one on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and other family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Dale Lawson, Lloyd Lawson, Jr. and John "Jack" Lawson.
