Juanita "Teresa" Cervantes, 71, of Silvis, IL, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Private funeral services will be live streamed Saturday at 10 am by logging into http://www.facebook.com/vanhoefuneralhome
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, IL.
Visitation will be 2-6 pm, Friday, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Anyone wishing to attend must wear face coverings and respect social distancing. There will be no chairs set up, and the family asks you to pay your respects in a timely manner and leave the building.
Teresa was born April 24, 1949, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Louis and Theresa (Terronez) Sierra. She married Carlos Cervantes on November 27, 1971, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. She first worked as a social worker for Illinois Public Aid, Rock Island, and then, worked as a paraprofessional at Lincoln-Irving School, Moline.
Teresa dedicated her life to her faith, family, friends, and community. She sat on various boards and gave so much time to others without hesitation. Teresa had a passion for teaching elementary children how to read and write. Her students were very dear to her and brought her so much joy. She spent many years teaching CCD at St. Anne Parish sharing her faith and spreading the Word of God. Teresa was a devoted mother to not only her two daughters, but to many others before them. Her most precious and cherished moments were when she was with her grandchildren attending their school and extracurricular activities, she was their biggest fan and biggest cheerleader. Teresa absolutely lived every day to her fullest with her husband. They spent many hours dancing the night away much to the delight of everyone around them, leaving a footprint on everyone's heart.
Survivors include her husband, Carlos Cervantes, Silvis; daughters, Marcela (Luke) Sherman, Silvis, and Elena (Dustin) Sommers, Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Sage, Aidan, Max, and Eva Sherman, and Christopher Cervantes-Neely; siblings, Jean Saucedo, Silvis, Guadalupe Campos, Silvis, and Mario John (Theresa) Sierra, Moline; sister-in-law, Sally Sierra, Bettendorf, IA; brother-in-law, Frank Trujillo Sr., Colona; IL; many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Antonia Reyes, Louis Sierra Jr., and Mary Lou Trujillo; and brothers-in-law, Victor Saucedo and Raymond Sierra III.
Memorials may be made for masses.
