Obituary

Juanita "Jennie" P. Nino, 89, of Adair, IA, went home January 4, 2021. Jennie was born May 25, 1931, in Silvis, Illinois, to Guadalupe and Vinceta (Rojas) Prieto. She married Ruben R. Nino February 27, 1960, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Silvis, Illinois. They lived in East Moline, Illinois, where they raised their four children. Jennie moved to Adair, Iowa, in 2005, where her daughter still resides, and lived there until her passing. She was a food server at Latin Village Restaurant in East Moline, IL, for over 20 years. Jennie loved her family, and they were her most prized possessions. Jennie would make sure everyone in her life felt special and loved her nieces and nephews and would tell stories. She loved reminiscing. She was a collector of many things. Jennie had a very sharp mind and would call everyone on their birthday, would remember others' appointments, check to make sure you went, and then check to see the outcome. Preceding her in death were her parents, Guadalupe and Vinceta (Rojas) Prieto; her siblings, John Prieto and Larry Prieto; her husband, Ruben R. Nino; her son, Francisco "Frank" P. Nino; and one grandson, Marcus James Colburn. Surviving Jennie are her two daughters, Olivia (J) Siedelmann of Adair, IA, and Gloria (Wayne) Colburn of Illinois; her son, Sergio (Mia B. Ruthey) Nino, Sr. of Illinois; and she was very proud of her 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her name for all who knew her was "Gram", no matter who it was, and she would always say "I'm everyone's Gram" with a big smile and giggle. Jennie's daily saying was "One Day at a Time" and that's how she lived her life and that's how she would want us all to live; don't stress and take it One Day at a Time. A visitation was held at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa. Private services will be held and burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Services will be live streamed 1pm Monday at http://www.facebook.com/vanhoefuneralhome The graveside services will be a separate live stream approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of funeral ceremony.
