Karen Marie Curler, wife, mother, sister, step-mother, daughter, grandma, aunt and best friend, completed her cycle of life on earth Thursday, May 4, 2006 under the care of the professional staff at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island, IL. Karen was a "giver", as long as she was able, she never missed a birthday, christening, wedding, shower, family reunion, or funeral. On June 19, 1941, Karen was born the first child of Lawrence and Sigrid (Jensen) Humberstone, later to become part-time nanny to her younger siblings. When she was 8 years, she saved her family from a burning house. Karen grew up shy and well-mannered, always anxious to please. These qualities got her through High School, Business College and her first love. Karen married Al Tebbe in 1961. Together, they gave the world 3 daughters, Michelle, Melissa and Melinda, who are left to honor her memory. Karen graduated from Beauty School, where her success at "do's" came primarily from practicing on her siblings. She owned and operated K-Marie's Beauty Shop in Coal Valley, IL for many years. She continued doing hair as long as she was able. Karen married Glen Curler in 1975. The family was extended to include 6 more children. Holidays were special for Karen and Glen because the family always stopped in. In 1999, Karen attended Black Hawk College to achieve a Certificate to be a Medical Assistant. She last worked for the Dr's Ade Office in Moline, IL. Glen Curler, her husband, 3 daughters, stepchildren and grandchildren were the center of her life. When the Lord called, Karen was hesitant to leave her loved ones. In the end, His Will was Done; Karen is in His Arms, preparing to welcome the rest of us when our names are called. She can finally rest peacefully.
