Karen K. Sheets, 79, of East Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023, with her family at her side, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline., where a rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Private entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Q.C. Paws.
Karen was born March 30, 1943 in Alta, Iowa, a daughter of Vernell "Barney" and Fern Madsen Davis. She graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing, Rock Island, in 1964. She married Ronald V. Sheets on October 17, 1964 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2022.
Karen began her nursing career in 1964 at St. Anthony Hospital, Rock Island. During her career Karen worked in Labor & Delivery and eventually went into management. She was a Nursing Supervisor for Trinity, Rock Island, when she retired in 2006. She loved patient care. Her coworkers meant the world to her and she formed many lasting friendships up until her death.
She was a member of Christ the King church, and was active in many church activities. Her faith and family were very important to her. She loved following her grandchildren's sporting activities and being a dance grandma. Karen and Ron were members of the Winnebago Itasca Travelers, and enjoyed motor home traveling across the country.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda (Dan) Zonnevylle, Illinois City, IL and Diane (Shane) Lyon, Moline, IL; grandchildren, Tyler Zonnevylle, Kaitlyn Zonnevylle, Jay Lyon and Ashley Lyon; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Sheets, Moline, IL; many nieces, nephews, and additional family; and very dear friend Jean Klauer, Coal Valley, IL.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and her sister, Donna Aring.
