Obituary

Katherine Karoules, 91, East Moline, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at her home. Funeral services are 11 AM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Katherine was born on May 23, 1923 in Moline, the daughter of Gust and Mary Pappas Pontikes. She married Paul Karoules on June 16, 1946 in Moline. He died November 14, 1964. She had a full life raising her children, spending time with her grandsons, granddaughter-in-law and great grandson, as well as keeping social with friends, family, church activities and working until she retired from Fancy Filly at Age 75. She loved to dance, make desserts, crochet baby afghans, scarves and lap covers for the elderly. She enjoyed wintering at her home in Florida where she continued to be active through those winter months in her senior years. There she welcomed and loved entertaining friends and family. Katherine's glass was always ½ full, her hair perfect, earrings on, dressed and ready for company or to go out at a minutes notice. She was active in the Greek community, attending both the St. George and Assumption Greek Orthodox Churches. She was a long time member of the Knitting Club, Philotopchos Society at St. George and Daughters of Penelope. Survivors include her children, George (Diane) Karoules, East Moline and daughter Mary (Jim) Winters, Bettendorf, IA, grandchildren Jacob (Denise) Winters and Adam Winters, great grandson Raymond Winters, and sister, Kleo Caras, Rock Island, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family in Greece. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Vivian (Gust) Soteropulos.
