Funeral services for Katherine Russell, 90, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00AM Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Russell died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Katherine Bruyntjens was born September 4, 1923, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Camiel and Elodie Rogiers Bruyntjens. She married Jack Briggs. She later married John Russel March 18, 1977, in Las Vegas, NV. He died January 28, 2011. Katherine retired from the U.S. Postal Service, in 1978. After retirement, she and John moved to Florida, where they lived for several years, before returning to Moline. She had been a NASCAR Fan, and ever since retirement at 2:00PM it was cocktail time.

Survivors include her sons, Jay (Jackie) Briggs, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Deacon Jim (Corinne) Briggs, East Moline, and Gary (Janice) Briggs, Genoa, IL; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Borg, Phoenixville, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Margaret Bruyntjens , brothers, Charlie and Frank Bruyntjens.
